Remember:
- Anyone can buy gifts. Sorry. Not everyone can sell them.
- A gift buyer is only as good as the gift merchandiser.
- A good gift buyer is a person who asked the right questions.
- Have an exit plan.
- Know when to stop buying
- Remember to add your freight cost!
- Just because something cost less doesn't mean it will ship for less!
- Document your success!
- Discounting should be your last resort.
- Give new life to an item by moving and remerchandising.
- If you're not sure how to best merchandise an item, then DON'T buy it.
- No rack or display is ever completely free.
- Stay away from initial or custom name gift lines.
- Creat a sign that sells the features, not the price.
- Never place a price sticker on glass.
- Use pricing string tags whenever possible.
- Try to have your prices end with .50, .00 or 99.
- If you double the cost and add freight you need to sell 50% of the gift line before you can start making money.
- A true 60% margin is (cost divided by .40)
