Expect a Shakeup, No More Business As Usual!
Typically I arrive on a Friday evening and then on Saturday I will conduct what some people describe as a brutal assessment of the store.  I try to determine any and every opportunity that may be available for the store owner.  I start from the outside and end the inspection at the remotest point of the store.  I examine everything from signage, floor plan, pricing strategies, merchandising skills, category placements, category sizes, circular programs, marketing plan, employee productivity, customer service and inventory control.  I like to tell folks that the more I find wrong the happier you should be.  The more you can improve the more profitable you will become.  When I visit a store I will take copious notes and numerous photos.  Most of my work is done from home.  After my return to Vermont a store owner can look forward to a very detailed "to do list" accompanied  with a comprehensive  list of steps on how to achieve your goals.  Anyone can tell you what's wrong, hopefully I can tell you how to fix it.  Almost always a  store will receive a new floor plan. To offer a visual example of what improvements can be made, I will create digitally enhanced photos that will show a before and a potential after.  My goal is to boost planned, impulse and companion sales, increase turns on inventory, improve profitability and empower employees.  Also I hope to better your image and enhance your marketing efforts.  I have seminars  (accented with just enough humor) on store design, merchandising, hosting a sale and customer service.  Due to the demands of my full time job, I do these visits on the weekends. I will only tell a client what they should hear, not what they want to hear.  Recently I just returned from a store where the owner spent over $100,000.00 to remodel, unfortunately it was all wrong.  That is not what he wanted to hear.  It will take some labor but no cash investment to fix it.  My full time job? It mirrors my part time job. Presently I am the Director of Retail Services for Burlington Drug Co, a regional wholesaler. I am constantly visiting stores all over New England and Upstate New York.
